About King Princess

King Princess grew into their love of the music industry early in their life. She spent much of their childhood following their father to work at his recording studio. They used this chance to learn several instruments as well as music-production techniques. It also provided them insight into the music industry that led to some of their career decisions.

As a musician, the young King Princess found inspiration in bands including Led Zeppelin and T. Rex, as well as Jack White. And they even received a scholarship to attend Avenues: The World School, after submitting a CD of songs they had written.

Career

When King Princess was 11, a music label approached them and offered a record label contract. But they refused because they saw how recording contracts affected an artists work. They noticed that labels often controlled the artist’s product and that it could change the feel of music. So they wanted to retain full control of their output.

In February 2018, King Princess released their debut single, “1950” which was a tribute to the novel The Price of Salt, to the LGBT community, and to queer love. The song found an enthusiastic audience especially when British singer Harry Styles tweeted a lyric to the song. 

Later that year, King Princess released their debut EP, which earned them the Breakout Pop Artist of the Year honors from Vivid Seats.

Personal Life

As you can guess, King Princess is a supporter of the LGBTQ+ community. In fact, they are gay and identify as non-binary. Regarding their gender identity, King Princess said in an interview with W magazine, “I like being a woman sometimes. I would say 49 percent of the time I love my titties. But I’m not fully a woman. I’m somebody who falls center on the gender spectrum, and it changes day to day. It’s just not in me to decide.”
